Applications are invited for a post-doctoral Research Associate/Fellow to work in a team at the University of Nottingham on a range of areas keyed into the objectives of the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacture in Medical Devices (MeDe Innovations).
We a seeking to appoint a researcher whose role will be to develop design and regulatory validation systems for customised medical devices. The key research and manufacturing challenges will be:
- To optimise adaptive segmentation algorithms for the generation of 3-dimensional virtual representations of the relevant anatomical structures (including both geometrical and material properties) from single or multimodal clinical datasets.
- To develop a regime of virtual regulatory testing to ensure the safety of individual patients that acts as the equivalent of the rigorous testing undergone by off the shelf devices.
- For a number of demonstration devices, to apply the virtual testing regime to create a safe design envelop that will permit validation of individual devices through and expert design system rather than requiring individual modelling.
- To create intelligent device design tools that will permit customised implants to be designed easily, based on a library of template devices, that are constrained by the validated design envelop. Candidates must (or about to obtain) a PhD, or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or Engineering, Image Processing and/or Modelling or a suitably related area.
This full time post is available from 1 March 2014 and will be offered on a fixed term contract for a period of 24 months.
