美国劳伦斯.伯克利国家实验室招聘物理、材料、化学博士后职位

The Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (JCAP) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow who will interact directly with the High-Throughput Experimentation (HTE) team at JCAP South. Research involves generating candidate compound structures using substitution and structure prediction algorithms. The structures will be screened based on band structure, band edge energies, phase stability and dissolution at the JCAP-defined aqueous conditions of interest, presently highly acidic and alkaline conditions. Beyond leveraging existing capabilities at the Materials Project, the work entails implementation of automatic analysis of solid solution regions into the MP software infrastructure analysis framework and integration of the data into a separate secure Materials Project database only available to JCAP personnel until such a time that the data is published/patented and can be publicly released. Responsibilities: • Complement the high-throughput (HT) experimentation effort at JCAP South with a synergistic HT computational effort on materials structure prediction, solid phase stability, band structure and aqueous dissolution as a function of changing oxygen and water environment (pH and standard hydrogen potential) parameters. • Structure prediction of ternary and quaternary ionic systems, with the ability to evaluate thermodynamic stability of new phases from first-principles calculations. • Evaluate potentially metastable structures (e.g., likely to be synthesizable, particularly under the various non-equilibrium synthesis conditions in HT experiments). • Conduct rapid calculations and data mining of stable crystalline compounds in a given chemical phase space. Qualifications: • Ph.D. (within the last few years) in Physics, Materials, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering • Experience with electronic structure calculations applied to heterogeneous systems involving a solid and gas or liquid • Ability to communicate research results effectively, both oral and written • Independence and self-motivation Notes: This is a 1-year postdoctoral fellow appointment with the possibility of renewal not to exceed a maximum of 5 years of cumulative postdoctoral experience. Extension of the appointment depends on successful performance, continued funding, and ongoing business need. The position is located at the JCAP-North site at 2929 Seventh Street in Berkeley, California. Multiple positions may be hired. Background check is required.
About Us JCAP is a Solar Fuels Innovation Hub - a research effort built on the premises that a critical mass of creative scientists and engineers working side by side can accomplish more, faster, than researchers working separately. This proactive approach to managing and conducting research is essential. JCAP is Department of Energy (DOE) funded Energy Innovation Hub with physical locations at Caltech (JCAP South) and Berkeley Lab (JCAP North). Learn more at http://www.solarfuelshub.org/ .
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory addresses the world’s most urgent scientific challenges by advancing sustainable energy, protecting human health, creating new materials, and revealing the origin and fate of the universe. Founded in 1931, Berkeley Lab’s scientific expertise has been recognized with 13 Nobel prizes. The University of California manages LBNL for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science.
