Empa is the interdisciplinary research and services institution for material sciences and technology development of the ETH Domain.

The Laboratory for Biomaterials in St. Gallen is looking for a highly motivated and proactive individual for a postdoctoral research position.

The successful candidate will be actively involved in the design, synthesis, characterization and implementation of multifunctional bio-hybrid polymers for a variety of applications.

The ideal applicant should have:

- A PhD in Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry
- Experience in handling air-sensitive reagents with standard Schlenk and glovebox techniques
- Experience in conducting polymerizations such as reversible-deactivation radical polymerizations (ATRP, RAFT etc.), coordination as well as organocatalytic ring-opening polymerizations etc.
- Experience in organic and organometallic synthesis
- Experience in the preparation and characterization of polymer assemblies in solution and solid state
- Ability to work autonomously as well as within a team
- Interest in applied science
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (fluency in English is mandatory, good knowledge of German is an asset) for the presentation and publication of scientific results

The position is available immediately for 2 years with the possibility of extension. Salary is highly competitive and the labs are modern and well-equipped.
