The Keselowsky Lab, in partnership with the Diabetes Center of Excellence at UF, is seeking an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Associate to join the team working on an NIH-funded project on microparticle-based vaccines for type 1 diabetes. We are engineering polymeric biomaterials-based microparticles as an injectable vaccine system to retrain the immune system, correcting aberrant activation toward pancreatic self-antigens. Our approach is the targeted delivery of factors to dendritic cells, a key immune regulator, to effect antigen-specific, pro-tolerance modulation. Synthetic microparticles provide targeted, controlled delivery of encapsulated immunomodulatory factors and pancreatic antigen to dendritic cells in vivo, in order to promote tolerance for amelioration of diabetes.
Highly motivated applicants with a Ph.D. in engineering, materials science or a basic science are encouraged to apply. Relevant experience in biomaterials and/or immunology is preferred. Applicants should have a strong experimental background and publication record, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
