The Quantum Control and Dynamics group ( www.tut.fi/~rasanene/QCAD) in the Computational Physics unit at the Department of Physics, Tampere University of Technology (TUT), has an opening for a postdoctoral position funded by the Academy of Finland. The hired person is expected to carry out research in one or two of the following projects in the field of theoretical/computational condensed matter and material physics: (1) Designer Dirac electrons in artificial graphene and (2) Coherent control of quantum cellular automata. Both projects include active international collaboration with several experimental and theoretical groups worldwide.
A successful applicant for the position must hold a doctoral degree in physics and good general knowledge of quantum mechanics and desirably electronic-structure theory. Competence to pursue independent scientific work and teaching skills are required to perform the duties of the position. Experience of studying and working abroad and contacts to international research will be appreciated. Programming skills (e.g. Fortran/C/C++) are highly beneficial but not mandatory. Excellent communication and team working skills are expected.
The position will be filled for a fixed term for one or two years, and it can be extended up to four years. The position offers excellent possibilities to strengthen the scientific career in the long term. The starting date is flexible starting from September 2013 to January 2014.
