Job Description The position focuses on developing room temperature stabilization methods for human fluid biospecimens such as blood serum, and plasma. In this NIH-funded project, a special carbohydrate-based matrix is utilized to rapidly vitrify the fluid biospecimens stabilizing the molecular information they contain. The responsibilities of the post-doctoral associate include manufacturing and characterizing the stabilizing matrix, optimization of the vitrification process and the storage conditions. Long-term stability experiments are to be conducted to determine stability of different proteinaceous cancers biomarkers in the biospecimens under different storage conditions. The candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biomedical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Molecular Biology. The candidate must have excellent experimentation skills: No candidate without experimental experience in his/her Ph.D. studies will be considered for this position. Experience with analytical chemistry techniques (spectroscopy, microscopy, etc.), spectroscopic and microscopic characterization techniques (including FTIR, RAMAN, UV-Vis Spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy), SEM, TEM, HPLC as well as Western blotting, silver staining, ELISA, and MS are highly desired.
