Post-doctoral Research Assistant Fixed term post on grade 7: Salary £29,541 to £31,331 (first 3 points on scale)
A highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Assistant is required to work on the genetics of body composition (fat mass and obesity), energy balance and type 2 diabetes using mouse models.
The position is part of a collaborative project between Professors Ashcroft (in DPAG) and Cox (at MRC Harwell). You will be employed by Oxford University but based in the Mammalian Genetics Unit at MRC Harwell, Didcot, Oxfordshire, OX11 0RD.
You will be responsible for planning and managing experiments using mouse genetics, mapping and sequencing novel genes, and the construction and analysis of tissue specific alleles of selected genes. Analysis of novel gene pathways in specific tissues, of the function of novel genes in physiological and behavioural pathways and at the molecular and cellular level will also be required, together with the analysis and interpretation of data and the initiation of new experiments based on these and published data.
You will have a doctorate or equivalent in a relevant area of research and a good academic track record for the stage of your career. You will have substantial molecular biology experience, experience of genetics, and preferably of physiology and metabolism. You will also have the appropriate experience of experimental animal work, and have (or be able to gain) a personal Home Office licence.
This is a fixed term post, funded by the Wellcome Trust for up to 3 years.
