We invite applications for a full-time Post-Doctoral Research Associate post, to work with Professor Andrew Higson (Head of the Department of Theatre, Film and Television) on a new €1m, 3-year research project, funded by HERA: Mediating Cultural Encounters Through European Screens (MeCETES), a collaboration with University of Copenhagen and Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
The project will analyse how contemporary European films and television drama represent other Europeans. It will consider the extent to which those European screen fictions are produced and which travel most readily between European nations. It will look at the policy framework and the industrial context that enable those fictions to be made and to circulate. The project will also examine the reception of those screen fictions, how audiences engage with them, and the role they play in establishing a sense of European identity, cultural integration and diversity.
The Research Associate will work primarily on cinema, dealing with both the big picture and developing case studies of films originating in the UK, Denmark and Belgium.
The research will involve working on policy, funding, production, distribution, dissemination, representation and reception.
