Employer: Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam Website: http://www.amc.nl Location: Meibergdreef 9, 1105 AZ , Amsterdam, Netherlands Type: Postdoctoral Posted: November 29, 2011 Expires: December 31, 2011 Requisition number: Postdoc job description Job Description The Tytgat Institute for Liver & Intestinal research, Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam, looks for a postdoctoral researcher with a background in biochemistry or molecular biology for a 3 year ERC funded project on the identification of stem cells that drive intestinal regeneration and carcinogenesis. Research group The Tytgat Institute performs high quality translational research in a multidisciplinary environment, bridging fundamental research with preclinical and clinical investigations in the field of Gastroenterology & Hepatology. The Tytgat Institute harbors approximately 70 researchers (PhD students and postdocs). Background The Van den Brink group has a vacancy in a project for a postdoctoral researcher on a project entitled “The identification of stem cells that drive intestinal regeneration and carcinogenesis.” In the past years the group has invested in the tools to study epithelial cell biology in the context of intestinal epithelial renewal. We have state of the art tools for conditional mutagenesis in the mouse, organoid cultures of primary intestinal epithelial cells and developed sorting strategies to isolate specific small (stem cell) populations of primary epithelial cells from the intestine. The postdoctoral researcher will use these tools to examine novel markers to identify stem cells that repopulate the epithelium after damage in vitro and in vivo and investigate the underlying signal transduction pathways. The postdoc preferably has a background in molecular biology and experience in working with stem cells, conditional mouse mutants and/or cell sorting strategies. Contact information Gijs R.
