job description
We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated candidates. A suitable background for this position is a PhD degree in experimental astroparticle physics or astrophysics. For outstanding candidates, a background in experimental particle physics may also be considered. Applicants are expected to have an experience of data reduction, analysis and/or simulation studies. Familiarity with work in a laboratory environment is considered a merit. Good oral and written communication skills in English are required.
Description
An OKC postdoctoral fellow is sought to contribute to the development of polarised soft gamma-ray astrophysics. Polarisation measurements in the soft gamma-ray band are expected to provide important information regarding high-energy emission from extreme objects such as pulsars, accreting black holes and jet-dominated active galaxies. OKC has a prominent position in this field through the development of a balloon-borne soft gamma-ray polarimeter, with the next flight planned for summer 2012. Contributions to related data analysis, modeling and simulation activities are also encouraged, possibly coupled to the development of new instrumentation approaches and concepts for future missions.
