job description
Sahlgrenska Academy at University of Gothenburg.
Closing date: 2011-11-10
A postdoctoral position funded for up to two years is available at the Institute of Biomedicine, University of Gothenburg.
The work will be devoted to understand how gene expression is regulated in mammalian mitochondria, using in vitro biochemistry and cell biology techniques. The project will involve extensive collaborations with the Max Planck Institute for biology of ageing in Cologne, Germany.
Skills: We are looking for a highly motivated scientist, who wants to work in a highly independent fashion. A Ph.D., not more than 3 years old, in experimental biochemistry or molecular biology is required. In the project, we will investigate the molecular mechanisms that govern gene expression in human mitochondria. Previous experience from research using purified proteins and/or characterization of gene expression (transcription, RNA stability, translation) in vitro or in vivo is therefore a strong merit.
The research group: The Institute of Biomedicin offers an excellent research environment with a broad range of projects spanning from the molecular biology of mitochondria to clinical studies. The mitochondrial gene expression group is headed by Professor Claes Gustafsson.
For more detailed information, please see recent publications from the group, e.g. (Cell Metab. 2011 May 4;13(5):527-39; Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2010 Sep 14;107(37):16072-7).
Work in the Gustafsson laboratory is supported by the Swedish Research Council, the Swedish Cancer Foundation, and the European Research Council.
