job description Characterizing Mash1 function in brain myelination and remyelination To develop therapies using endogenous adult oligodendrocyte precursors for demyelinating diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in their generation and differentiation is still required. In this context, we are studying the function of bHLH transcription factor Mash1 (Ascl1), which is involved in the generation of oligodendrocyte precursors from neural stem cells, during embryonic development (Parras et al., JN, 2007; Sugimori et al., Development, 2007 & 2008). We aim to demonstrate its role during postnatal oligodendrogenesis and adult remyelination using both loss-of-function (conditional knockout) and gain-of-function strategies. The proposed research takes advantage of multidisciplinary approaches including molecular and cellular biology, transgenic mice as well as culture model systems, at the Research Center of Brain and Spinal Cord Institute (Centre de Recherche de l’Institut du Cerveau et de la Moelle épinière, CRICM), a research environment grouping basic and clinically applied research, with a special interest in demyelinating diseases and glial tumors. Profile: We are searching for a highly motivated and talented individual with a PhD in Neuroscience or Development Biology fields (with no more of 2 years after the PhD). A strong background and training in Molecular, Developmental Biology and Mouse Genetics are preferred. Interested candidates should send a CV, a personal statement of research interests and contact details of two referees. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed in November 2011. The position is available from January 2012 for two years. Candidates will be encouraged to apply for independent funding after their first year in the lab. Closing date: 20th November 2011. Interviews: From 20th November 2011
